Chicago to MI Yacht Race ... Slow Going...No Wind!!
The 105th race. The last finishers came in spinnakers unfurled in order to catch the wind. For some it was a 80+ hour trip! There was talk about ending the race prior to all arrivals. I personally do not know if they did or not.
Many from afar.
The Chicago Yachts come under the Mackinac Bridge.
Making their way to the finish line. Many Yacht boats have a power boat traveling with them as witnessed in this photo.
This one with colorful spinnaker unfurled, makes a break for the finish line
Passes beautifully in front of the light house. GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY!
....and this one drops the spinnaker after the canon shot!!!! Into the harbor....

Party Time Aboard one of the classier yachts! ...and an early finisher!
Just chillin'!
They fill the harbor. Beautiful site to see.
A favorite photo of mine through the window of the Beanery Coffee Shop.
And here they dry the sails at the foot of Fort Mackinac and think of their power trip home!

And I wrap this up with some cool photos that just did not fit in any logical spot....
During the Yacht race, all traffic lanes are open, so this freighter passed by this Yacht as it made its way from Chicago to Minnesota....check out your map for routing information. We see these on a regular basis. They even try to keep them running through the winter. This is an Arnold Transit service boat; they carry groceries, equipment, trucks to and from St. Ignace and Mackinaw City.
This is a Star Line ferry boat; the tale means nothing...merely for effect.
This is the Arnold Lines' large ferry passenger boat.
...and this would be Shepler's boat...the boat line I always use!
I loved sharing my view from the porch with you...trust you enjoyed it as well! Jane
