The lure of an apple tree.

An apple tree on the shore.

This apple tree was planted by the father of my elderly next-door neighbor and is a great gathering spot for people from all walks of life.  They sit on the board walk, climb in the tree, throw the apples, play in the rocks, and some....the very brave who enjoy cold water....even go in the lake!
(My own brave family members ...Jeff, Mendi, Zach and Gavin....take a bar of Ivory soap with them and bathe in the lake.)

A second view of the tree from the front porch of Cable Cottage!
The IU flag always flies.  Go Hoosiers!!

And people from all walks of life gather under, in front of and beyond the tree.....

This neighbor man passes in front of the tree on his way to work....and yes, the dogs go with him!

The Kayaker, under the apple tree,  launches into Lake Huron....

Destination....Round Island Light House!  This is a safe crossing as long as the Kayaker factors in the coming and going of the passenger boats.

Brides and grooms and often large wedding parties choose to have their photos made under the apple tree.

This family enjoys sitting under the apple tree.

Brother teaching sissy how to skip rocks in front of the apple tree.

The apple tree and view of Round Island Light House always seem to draw folks!

Mackinac Island Blogging

Let my summer blog begin...

After 1,877.2 miles of driving, hanging with the "cutters" as well as college friends in Bloomington, Indiana and my Key West friends in Haslett, Michigan, I finally arrived at my destination...the Cable Cottage on Mackinac Island.  Good to be here!

First item of business was to trade my Red Nissan Frontier truck...with the carlashes...for my red Townee bicycle...with the "manure-stripe-up-your-back-preventer-fender"!... Not nearly as cute but oh so practical when it is raining!!

And my first visitor of summer 2012 was my sister-in -law, Ginny Winston Hollenback from Bloomington, Indiana.  I enjoyed her visit tremendously as we "peddled" ourselves around the Island, ate...and drank...well!  Visitors are always fun; here we find Ginny on the front porch of The Cable Cottage.

Coming next....views under, beside and beyond the apple tree....stay tuned!
